ESMA provides academically rigorous research consulting services on timescales that matter to decision makers, using best-in-class open energy systems models, leveraging the more than 40 years of institutional knowledge in the IEA-ETSAP TIMES open-source code to enable partnerships to co-create data-driven insights for optimal investment decisions, engineering operation, strategic long-term planning, policy uncertainty, and risk mitigation analytics in clean energy futures. Dr James Glynn is Founder CEO of Energy Systems Modelling Analytics Limited (ESMA Ltd.), incorporated in Galway, IRELAND in 2024-Q4. Prior to ESMA, James was a Senior Research Scholar at Columbia University’s SIPA Center on global energy policy, where he built and led the Energy Systems Modelling Analytics Program for 3 years, providing quantitative modelling & analytics capabilities across the centre’s research initiatives and also across Columbia’s Climate School and co-supervises Columbia Engineering PhD students. He is an invited expert by the European Commission, IRENA, the IAEA, and an invited expert reviewer for the IEA-ETP. James has provided expert witness testimony to Government committees on energy systems decarbonisation pathways, carbon budgets and carbon capture & storage. James has provided capacity building to Irish, US, Chinese, Korean and many other nations civil servants.
