About Essential WorkWellness
Essential WorkWellness is an ergonomic consulting company working with original equipment manufacturers to bring effective improvement in ergonomics to product development, customer education and marketing communications. Our principle, Susan Murphey, has provided OEM design and/or marketing communications consulting for major exam table and ultrasound equipment manufacturers based in the United States, Europe and Asia. With the unique distinction of being credentialed in both diagnostic medical sonography and ergonomics, she brings an unparalleled level of expertise to her product development work. Too often there is product design work that has great engineering accomplishment, but lacks usability from inadequate end user input during the design process. Susan has done extensive research on the mechanism of injury among diagnostic medical sonographers, including several research projects published in peer reviewed journals. Using a combination of those results, empirical knowledge of the science of ergonomics, and direct experience from decades as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, Susan helps OEM design teams incorporate ergonomic features specific to the tasks performed using the equipment. Ergonomic marketing communication helps end users not only realize the importance of the ergonomic features of well-designed equipment, but also how to utilize equipment effectively to reduce the risk for musculoskeletal injury. You can have the best product in the world, but if they don’t know how to use it, there is no benefit. Susan Murphey speaks the customer’s language. Having an ergonomist, who is also a sonographer, can help sales and applications personnel fully understand the ergonomic concepts designed into the final product, or provide customer education in order to be able to assist the customer to fully utilize the benefits of the ergonomic design.
