Essum AB är ett svenskt bioteknikföretag lokaliserad på Umestans Företagspark i björkarnas stad Umeå. Företaget utvecklar, tillverkar och marknadsför probiotika. Vi utvecklar funktionell mat, kosttillskott och aktiva hud- och hygienprodukter. De två mest välkända stammarna är Lactococcus lactis L1A och Lactobacillus rhamnosus LB21 som används bland annat i Verumprodukter som tillverkas av Norrmejerier (Verum Hälsofil, Verum Hälsoyoghurt).
Forskning och kliniska studier pågår inom övre luftvägsinfektioner där både kosttillskott och medicintekniska produkter kan bli aktuella inom några år.
