Cybersecurity is a critical concern in today's digital world, and Ethiopia is no exception. Recognizing this need, the Ethiopian government established Ethio CERT, the Ethiopian Cyber Emergency Readiness and Response Team. This national organization plays a vital role in safeguarding the country's digital space by defending against cyberattacks, building national capacity, and facilitating incident response. Ethio CERT's primary mission is to create a secure and reliable cyberspace for Ethiopia. This is achieved through various initiatives: Defense Against Cyberattacks: Ethio CERT actively monitors for vulnerabilities in Ethiopian networks and computer systems, proactively identifying and addressing potential threats. In the event of an attack, they provide technical assistance to affected entities and coordinate response efforts with relevant authorities. Building National Capacity: Recognizing that a skilled workforce is essential for effective cybersecurity, Ethio CERT conducts training programs and workshops to enhance the knowledge and skills of individuals and organizations across the country. This includes raising awareness about cyber threats and best practices, promoting the use of secure technologies, and fostering a culture of cybersecurity within Ethiopia. Facilitating Incident Response: Ethio CERT serves as a centralized hub for reporting and managing cyber incidents. Individuals and organizations can contact Ethio CERT in case of a cyberattack or suspected security breach, allowing for prompt and coordinated response efforts. Ethio CERT then provides technical assistance to affected entities, assists in investigations, and collects evidence to ensure accountability and prevent future incidents.
