About European Union in the Central African Republic

The Delegation of the European Union (EU Delegation) in the Central African Republic officially represents the European Union in the country. Present in the Central African Republic since 1957, the EU representation in CAR became, with the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty in December 2009 and the creation of the European External Action Service (EEAS), a fully accredited diplomatic mission according to the Vienna Convention. The Delegation is currently headed by Ambassador Douglas Carpenter. It is also responsible for representing the European Union to the Commission of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC), with which it maintains close relations. The Delegation monitors the local implementation of European Union policies in all sectors, and promotes and defends the values of the European Union. It is also involved in supporting the country's development through various programs related to education, health, green transition, rural development, justice, governance, and human rights.
