About EUREL
EUREL (EUrope - RELigion) is an information website created by a group of experts grouped together in a scientific network. The EUREL information site provides free, verified and up-to-date data on the sociological and legal state of religion in Europe, from an interdisciplinary perspective. This site is aimed at the international scientific community, as well as public authorities and political players, and brings together information, put into perspective, concerning the wider Europe (Member States of the European Union, candidate countries and other European countries). A special section is devoted to Europe as a whole, both in its institutional dimension (how the European Union, the Council of Europe, etc. take religious denominations into account) and in a comparative perspective (how different European countries deal with the same issue). Originally set up to encourage comparative work and international exchanges at a time when the European Union consisted of 8 countries, the network opened up to the wider Europe by including Switzerland, then Russia and Turkey, as well as welcoming the new EU member countries. It has recently included Canada, both because of the value of the comparative perspective and because of the important influence of this country from the point of view of legal dialogue.
