About European Language Technology

This is the combined channel of the EU projects European Language Equality (ELE) and European Language Grid (ELG) – together working towards a joint network of language technology for Europe’s languages and digital language equality by 2030. Follow us for project updates, events and news from the European artificial intelligence, language technology and NLP community. About ELE: Multilingualism is a key cultural cornerstone of Europe, but many studies have found an imbalance in its support through language technologies. ELE lays the foundations for a strategic agenda and roadmap for making digital language equality a reality in Europe by 2030 – by preparing the European Language Equality Programme, a strategic research, innovation and implementation agenda. The programme is developed with the entire European Language Technology, Computational Linguistics and language-centric AI community. Ensuring appropriate support for all European languages will create jobs, growth and opportunities in the digital single market as well as a more inclusive society – for unity in diversity. Learn more at www.european-language-equality.eu. About ELG: An inclusive European digital single market can only be realized by language technology, which is provided by European SMEs and large players of world class. However, the European LT business is also fragmented by nations and languages, which hinders its potential. The European Language Grid is the primary platform for Language Technology in Europe, providing access to hundreds of commercial and non-commercial Language Technologies for all European languages. It allows the sharing and connecting of LT tools for the Multilingual Digital Single Market in Europe. The ELG is coordinated by 32 National Competence Centers and financially supports 20 pilot projects for the demonstration of its service. Learn more at www.european-language-grid.eu. This profile is hosted by the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI).
