Background - The Unmet Need: Cryopreservation technology has advanced little over the past 50 years. Methods of acquiring and preserving cells lack consistency and reliability. Traditional non-specific cryoprotectants such as DMSO are thought to target water transition to ice-crystal formation within and outside of cells. Cells preserved by traditional processes have reduced functionality and viability post-thaw due to significant toxicity.
