Engineers Without Borders | Kenya Program

Engineers Without Borders | Kenya Program company information, Employees & Contact Information

The Kenya Program of Engineers Without Borders-Central Houston Chapter is a group of engineers who volunteer to assist the community of Kimaut, Kenya with a first project that has a main focus on providing access to clean water and sanitation. Kimaut, a community of about 5,000 people, is located 170-miles northwest of Nairobi and 75-miles east of Kisumu. Severe drought has dried up water resources and community members lack access to clean water. Recurrent droughts have destroyed livelihoods, triggered local conflicts over scarce resources and eroded the ability of communities to cope. Families are on the move, which poses protection risks for women and children. The program’s first project will address the community’s water shortages while providing education, operations, and maintenance resources for the community. The program intends to expand to others area after implementation of the first project. The goal of the first project is to provide a sustainable source of potable water for the community, provide the tools and education needed to sustain the system, and empower the community through active project participation.
