The Employees' Welfare Fund is a parastatal body under the aegis of the The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development. The objects of the Fund are:
- To manage the financial and other resources of the Fund
- To set up and operate schemes and projects for the welfare of employees and their families
- To give loans or financial assistance to employees or their families for such purposes as may be determined by the Board
- To do all such things as appear to be necessary and conducive to the promotion of the welfare of employees and their families in general.
The main activity of the EWF, so far, comprises of providing a series of loan facilities in different areas like Education Loan, Car Loan, Multi Purpose Loan, Medical Loan and Loan for People with Disabilities. Each of these loans have specific objectives and attributes. All these loan schemes are available to members of EWF. As per the EWF Act 1995, members of EWF are all those employees who have a contribution or are contributing to the National Savings Fund.
