Our mission is to bring together the leading fundamental and clinical neuroscientists in Austria to collaboratively explore how distinct types of GABA cells are formed during development, interact within neuronal networks, control circuit operations that underlie behaviours, and become impaired in brain diseases such as autism, epilepsy and schizophrenia. To achieve this, we aim to integrate the latest concepts methods, and tools in both basic and clinical neuroscience. By combining clinical genetics, animal models of disease and regeneration, and approaches in genetic and pharmacological rescue of brain functions, we strive to bring new insights from the lab directly into the clinic, ultimately advancing personalized treatment strategies for brain disorders.
