When Jill Donahue was 35, her father died of an avoidable prescribing error. As a daughter, she was heartbroken. As a pharma professional, she couldn't help but wonder ‘what if?’. What if the Rep or MSL who called on her father's doctor had greater impact? Could the mistake have been prevented?
John's personal experiences in the pharma industry where he made his career were positive—his mother enjoyed 10 extra years thanks to clinical trials for her cancer. During this time, she met her granddaughter and enjoyed a renewed lease on life.
They know all too well that the science alone is not enough. The science must be married with amazing engagement skills from the person sharing the science. The 800-pound gorilla in the room is that medicines don’t work in patients who don’t get them.
One of the challenges is that engagement skills are built on trustworthiness. Teaching the skill of engagement in an industry that had lost its trustworthiness proved to be a daunting task.
