About Exodus Virtual Centre

SESAR envisions a future single European airspace system that optimizes airspace structures and harmonizes operations to become more cost efficient. At its heart is the virtual centre concept, presenting a move from geographically based systems to service-oriented and virtual (i.e., location independent) architectures. The EXODUS Digital SKy Demonstrator project will be COOPANS’ first step towards virtualised ATM environments with logical federated solutions in a SOA architecture.. The overall objective of the EXODUS project is to demonstrate the viability of a common COOPANS ATM system, established as a Virtual Centre (VC) 3 layer model, geographically separating the ADSP from the location of the ATSP, demonstrating the operational and business viability of a future common COOPANS operating model. COOPANS is well known as an efficient ANSP cooperation sharing a harmonised ATM platform (Thales TopSky) for more than a decade, with synchronized deployments twice a year and local adaptations where required. The scope of the EXODUS project will be to develop a COOPANS Community environment, including the deployment of: • Two central datacentres installed at two different ANSP premises • Several controller and pilot working positions as well as supervisory positions at each of the 6 COOPANS ANSP member sites in Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Ireland, Portugal, and Sweden. All COOPANS partners will install the necessary local components and connect via a shared infrastructure. EXODUS will demonstrate 5 scenarios where decoupling of ADSP and ATSP will improve ANSP capabilities enabling ANS provision everywhere from anywhere inside the community. We will furthermore demonstrate how we can speed up the European Innovation process working closer together with suppliers in more agile manners, increasing harmonisation and standardisation. The Project is supported by the SESAR Joint Undertaking and have received funding from the EU under grant agreement No 101122636.
