Eyewords™ was created by a multidisciplinary team of educators in collaboration with children of different ages and abilities, speech and language pathologists, researchers, and graphic designers to address a need to differentiate reading instruction for all learners.
Eyewords was initially developed to complement existing phonemic awareness instruction in kindergarten classrooms by providing a multisensory-orthographic approach to teaching the high frequency words, many of which are difficult to decode phonetically. In addition to boosting the overall effectiveness of kindergarten and primary literacy programs, it was quickly discovered that Eyewords has a tremendous benefit to ELL learners and children who struggle to read through systematic phonics instruction alone. Our core belief is that learning to read can be a fun and engaging process for all. Eyewords resources and methodology are evidence-based and researched by Stanford University. A published study can be found in Learning and Instruction, volume 65.
