The Project
The FAIR project, composed of a consortium of 9 organizations based in nine different EU countries - Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Slovenia, and Spain - is a direct response to the European Commission's 2020 "Strategy to Strengthen the Application of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights". This strategy, launched on the 20th anniversary of the EU Charter, outlines significant progress and persistent challenges in its implementation across EU Member States.
Context and Motivations
The Charter has stimulated new EU laws for the protection of fundamental rights, increased its use by EU and national courts, and supported the development of bodies such as the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA).
The FAIR project represents the practical realization of research activities conducted by consortium organizations acting as national contractors for FRANET, leveraging the expertise gained by FRANET teams and FRA data to raise awareness about the Charter in various EU countries.
