Fair & Smart Data (FSD) is an action-oriented transdisciplinary research programme that puts smallholder farmers at the centre of sustainable development. FSD studies the concept of fair and smart data in global agricultural value networks, emphasising the economic, social, and environmental challenges facing smallholder farmers in the Global South.
With its focus on global agricultural commodities such as coffee and cocoa, FSD wants to contribute to the transition to new value networks that empower people and protect the planet. This transition will rely on using data and digital technology in a smart and fair way, developing sustainable business models, and ensuing inclusive governance of supply chains.
FSD is a joint initiative of Maastricht University (School of Business and Economics), Rabobank and Solidaridad, and welcomes everyone who wants to contribute to a better world on a liveable planet!
