FAMSA East Africa- Federation of African Medical Students' Associations

The Federation of African Medical Students’ Associations (FAMSA) is an independent and non-political organisation founded and run by medical students studying in different medical schools across Africa. FAMSA serves as an important avenue for medical students to discuss and create impactful policies aimed to improve the livelihood of Africans in the aspects of health, education and development. It was established with a focus on advocating and spreading awareness about medically-relevant topics that have a major impact on the African continent. Since its inception in 1968, FAMSA has gained recognition internationally by both the African Union (AU) and World Health Organisation (WHO) with several partnerships globally. FAMSA East Africa Regional Council is one of the FAMSA regions which comprises Medical Student Associations from 14 countries which are ( Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Somalia, Madagascar, Eritrea, Seychelles, Malawi, Mozambique, Comoros and Mauritius ) concerned with coordinating and guiding activities of medical students in all medical associations in these countries. Structure The Regional Coordinator is voted in as an individual but will be helped by a group of capable members with the following portfolios in line with the Constitution of FAMSA committees and subcommittees. This is to increase participation, diversity and effectiveness. The appointment for FAMSA East Africa Region Committee members includes the following: ● Vice Regional Coordinator External Affairs (VRCEA) ● Vice Regional Coordinator Membership and Capacity Building (VRCMCB) ● Vice Regional Coordinator Internal Affairs (VCRIA) ● Publications director & officers ● Liaison Officers in Universities (MSA Local officers) ● Regional Secretary ● Finance officers ● Translators (Francophone and Arabic) ● Project Coordinating Team (PCT)
