About Franklin and Marshall Global Barometers

The first-of-their-kind Global Barometer of Gay Rights (GBGR) and Global Barometer of Transgender RIghts (GBTR) are country-by-country rating systems measuring the human rights of sexual minorities in 204 countries. The rigor and methodology of the Global Barometers make them a unique tool for discerning human rights globally and for policymaking. The Global Barometers provide the following: -Individual grades and scores, calculated annually for 204 countries -Nine-year (2011-2019) trends for each grade level: Protecting, Tolerant, Resistant, Intolerant, Persecuting -World maps showing grade levels by country and region -A multi-year worldwide mean score The GBGR and GBTR assign each country a letter grade on the familiar A-F scale. This grading system is based on over 200,000 data points across five dimensions: -Constitutional Protection -De Facto (Civil & Political) Protection -LGBT Rights Advocacy -Socioeconomic Rights -Societal Persecution
