Fisicoquímica de Actínidos y Productos de Fisión (FAPF CIEMAT)

Our research group focuses on fundamental investigations into the physical chemistry and geochemistry of actinides and fission products to better understand their behavior in the environment. Additionally, we conduct application-oriented studies on radionuclide retention and migration within the multi-barrier system of radioactive waste repositories. Our goal is to develop scientifically grounded evidence of long-term safety and support informed management decisions. We analyze key processes influencing radionuclide solubility and mobility, with particular emphasis on those that enhance contaminant migration, using both experimental and theoretical approaches. Furthermore, we seek a fundamental understanding of these processes to refine thermodynamic models, thereby improving predictive modeling of radionuclide behavior under evolving chemical conditions.
