The post-World War II reparations fund, totaling Rs. 18.4 million, allocated by the British government for Pakistani veterans, was strategically utilized to establish a Foundation, marking the inception of a socially conscious entity. This organization operates independently, sustained by its commercial investments, which concurrently contribute to Pakistan's National Economic Development agenda. Its primary objective is to complement the Government of Pakistan's (GoP) initiatives in supporting veterans, their families, including widows and martyrs' families, for their rehabilitation. Fauji Foundation (FF) proudly leads this endeavor, solely reliant on its self-sustaining model.
Since its inception, FF has experienced remarkable growth. Commencing with a modest 50-bed hospital in 1959, it has expanded its footprint significantly, now encompassing a nationwide network of 1,800 beds spread across 75 medical facilities. This includes 11 hospitals, 63 clinics, and 128 educational institutions, comprising Foundation University, medical, dental, and nursing colleges, tertiary colleges, schools, and vocational training centers. This expansion underscores FF's unwavering commitment to its core mission. Currently, FF serves over 10 million beneficiaries, equivalent to 5% of the national population.
The endowment fund is judiciously invested across diverse sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, food supply chain, power, energy, and financial services. These investments not only bolster FF's financial resources but also contribute significantly to Pakistan's economic development, addressing critical areas like food security, energy stability, and infrastructure enhancement.
The majority of FF's commercial investments are listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), operating under rigorous corporate governance standards and unwavering integrity. Over time, these investments have yielded substantial returns for minority shareholders, including the general public.
