La Federazione Italiana dei Piloti dei Porti (FEDEPILOTI) ha lo scopo di tutelare, con indirizzo unitario, gli interessi morali ed economici della categoria dei Piloti dei Porti, di valorizzarne il prestigio presso la pubblica opinione, gli organi tecnici, amministrativi e di stampa; di facilitare il collegamento e la cooperazione tra i piloti, ai fini di favorire lo sviluppo e il progresso tecnico della categoria; di fornire collaborazione e pareri alle iniziative attinenti all'attività dei porti e della navigazione; di sollecitare presso i competenti organi dello Stato tutte quelle iniziative nel campo legislativo, tecnico, sindacale etc., che possono tornare a beneficio della categoria stessa e del settore specifico dell'economia nazionale in cui operano direttamente e indirettamente i piloti dei porti; di curare gli interessi dei pensionati, portando nelle opportune sedi le loro aspirazioni.
La FEDEPILOTI è ad oggi il sindacato maggiormente rappresentativo della categoria.

The story of Federazione Italiana Piloti dei Porti (Italian Port Pilots’ Federation) began in 1947. Since then it has taken care of the ethical, moral and economic interests of Italian pilots. During these long years of activity, Fedepiloti has never lost sight of the fundamental values of what is not just a profession, but a mission. We take pride in the knowledge that we represent a sector that is too often neglected, but which can boast wonderful people and the highest standards of professionalism.
Becoming a port pilot is a “starting point” in the professional life of an officer, whether they come from the merchant navy or regular navy. It is not merely the culmination of their career. Apart from needing to engage in ongoing training, a good pilot is aware that every manoeuvre has its own history, and that each ship has its own handling characteristics. This means that they must constantly strive to improve, so that they can provide the assistance required of them independently,
