The main goal of the project is to create a comprehensive monitoring system for dikes against inner (piping) and surface erosion as well as deformation. A unique DFO (distributed fiber optical) sensor has been developed to measure total and interstitial pore water pressure in the dikes and underneath riverbeds. The sensor measures filtration and erosion which could lead to dam stability problems.
