PROTECTING THE INTEGRITY OF FOOTBALL FIFA Integrity Initiative against match manipulation In the light of various betting scandals, FIFA set up an early warning system prior to the 2006 FIFA World Cup™. Since 2006, Early Warning System GmbH (EWS) has been supporting FIFA in preventing, detecting and investigating match manipulation. EWS forms an integral component of FIFA’s Integrity Initiative and the aim is to support FIFA in the protection of the integrity of football and in the implementation of FIFA’s integrity program. The scope of EWS competencies includes: Providing consultancy in setting up integrity measures and good practice standards Establishing and continuously developing state of the art monitoring and analytical systems and procedures Monitoring and analyzing betting markets and football matches for irregularities indicative of match manipulation Assisting and supporting investigations of match manipulation Supporting the implementation of training and educational programs Developing partnerships and enhancing cooperation with relevant stakeholders contributing to match integrity governance, regulations, detection and enforcement The company with offices in Zurich, Switzerland has now established itself as an independent Centre of Intelligence worldwide.
