FightHerTM® started with a story of self realization when its founder Silvy Kalra was on her way back home from work. She heard two domestic workers talking about how unsafe it was for them to reach home if they left work after 7 pm.
Being a journalist and communications professional, Silvy worked at odd hours and knew how important it was for women to feel safe while traveling alone. She wanted to learn self-defense but after hearing the conversation between two domestic workers, she decided to learn while teaching self-defense to domestic workers free of cost.
FightHer was born in October, 2018. An initiative to teach girls, women and domestic workers basic self-defense techniques to help them be their own protector.
The mission of FightHer is to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor by motivating women from affluent families to contribute a small amount for the classes and in return making the classes free of cost for the ones who can’t afford.
The vision of FightHer is to create a world where women safety is intact and each woman/girl feels confident enough to protect herself.
Women’s equality and empowerment is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, but also integral to all dimensions of inclusive and sustainable development. In short, all the SDGs depend on the achievement of Goal 5 and FightHer is striving its best to achieve it.
