Dental aid, education, advocacy
The purpose of Filling the Gap is to improve the health and quality of life of vulnerable people with poor oral health through the provision of pro bono dental aid programs throughout NSW and the ACT. We prioritise those most in need who are unable to access mainstream dental services, including asylum seekers and refugees, Indigenous Australians, and vulnerable people with complex and chronic health conditions.
We have a network of dentists working across NSW and the ACT who volunteer their time and expertise provide dental treatment to people who are referred by our partner charities. We currently work with 25 partner charities, NSW Health and other organisations, including the Australian Dental Health Foundation and the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health.
Oral health education programs and advocating for equity of access and better oral health care for all Australians is a key function of Filling the Gap.
Filling the Gap was formed by the Australian Dental Association NSW Branch (ADA NSW) and is a registered charity with deductible gift recipient (DGR) status. ADA NSW has a long history of running benevolent programs.
