to teach drivers how to avoid skids and other hazardous conditions.
Michal's early career as an EMT prompted him to found First Gear Driving Academy.
His EMT career gave him extensive experience and honed his skill in operating emergency vehicles under all kinds of circumstances and in all types of weather. However, the most challenging part of his EMT job was being the first on the scene of often horrendous car wrecks.
Michal realized that many accidents could have been prevented—and many drivers' lives saved—had they possessed the right driving skills and knowledge. He founded First Gear Driving Academy in 2011, combining his two passions: saving lives and driving.
The central focus of First Gear's driving safety course is the Skid Car, which adds a set of "training wheels" and an electro‐hydraulic system to the suspension of an ordinary vehicle. Inside the vehicle, a driving coach uses advanced technology to simulate driving in different types of hazardous conditions.
Currently, First Gear has two vehicles with Skid Car systems: an SUV and a full-size 15,000-pound truck. First Gear trains individuals, families, commercial and corporate fleet drivers, and emergency vehicle drivers (police, firefighters, EMTs).
