First Step Alliance is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization committed to advancing successful reentry for formerly incarcerated individuals by providing critical access to the financial information and services people need to achieve sustainable financial independence. We partner with community organizations, Departments of Corrections, and other government agencies to reach people in need.
Our vision is to make impactful, permanent change to the systemic banking issues faced by millions of formerly incarcerated individuals by forming a new not-for-profit financial institution dedicated to our community. The organizing members have started the process to obtain a new credit union charter. First Step Alliance was approved by the National Credit Union Administration as the membership association for this proposed new federal credit union.
