Aquatic therapy is shown to be one of the most beneficial forms of therapeutic intervention for children as the hydrostatic pressure, buoyancy and viscosity of the water enables strong development of motor skills as well as social interaction and sensory fulfilment. Statistics have shown that children with a physical or intellectual disability are twice as likely to drown compared to children within the general population. This is can often be due to a lack of safety awareness in the water.
Here at Flipper Academy, we provide a unique aquatic therapy program that combines water safety and learn to swim skills to help children that are unaware of these base level skills to be water safe and self-reliant whilst building on their gross motor skills. We believe that every child should be given an opportunity to be provided with water-based therapy in conjunction with being taught swimming strokes at their own pace. Not only does this provide them with the tools and skills to be independent in the pool but it also gives them opportunity to partake in everyday swimming activities.
Our services involve group sessions of 2 or 3 children run by a qualified and experienced physiotherapist with a passion for paediatrics and are claimable by NDIS.
