About FLOW Project
FLOW will develop new and innovative prediction methods for production statistics and load performance of modern GW-scale and 400-metre tall offshore and onshore wind energy systems. FLOW aims to revolutionize wind energy systems by developing advanced prediction methods for production statistics and load performance. By surpassing current methods with higher accuracy and confidence, FLOW reduces uncertainties, boosts productivity, stabilizes the grid, and lowers the levelized cost of energy (LCoE). The project also establishes an open-source knowledge hub that benefits the renewable energy sector as a whole, facilitating collaboration between developers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for joint optimization. To achieve these goals, FLOW enhances understanding of atmospheric flow physics and the interaction between microscale wind farms and mesoscale large-scale systems. This includes addressing issues such as wind farm global blockage, farm-farm interaction, and turbulence caused by topography and wake effects in complex terrains. Based on this knowledge, FLOW develops and validates simulation tools that can be readily adopted by industry, thereby reducing economic uncertainties, enhancing system reliability, and maximizing power production, leading to significant economic and societal benefits.
