About Future of Canadian Automotive Labourforce (FOCAL)

The Future of Canadian Automotive Labourforce (FOCAL) Initiative is a collaboration of the Canadian Skills Training and Employment Coalition (CSTEC), the Automotive Policy Research Centre (APRC) and Prism Economics and Analysis. FOCAL is funded by the Government of Canada. Since 2019, the FOCAL Initiative has produced current labour market information related to Canada’s automotive manufacturing sector, examined key trends affecting the automotive labour market, and produced forecasts of supply and demand for key occupations in the broader automotive sector. Our research and other findings have been shared with employers at all tiers in Canada’s broader automotive sector, as well as to educators, students, job-seekers, policy makers at all levels of government, labour organizations, and other non-government stakeholders in this important segment of Canada’s manufacturing industry.
