THE FOOD INDUSTRY IN PAYS DE LA LOIRE
The food industry is the Pays de la Loire regions’ biggest industrial sector, which alone accounted for 4% of wage earners and 24% of industrial jobs in 2013. The sector comprises over 1,000 establishments and 47,500 employees. The farming and food industry sector provides more than 10% of PBS (standard gross production).
EXPORTING PAYS DE LA LOIRE FOOD INDUSTRIES
In terms of economic activity, the sector achieved nearly €13 billion in turnover, with 10% of that due to export. Interestingly, 11% of the region’s food industry companies generate over half of their sales through export.
The region has great depth in the food industry sector. It includes companies ranging from SOHOs and SMEs to large groups, which produce a wide variety of products: meats, canned goods, salted products, vegetables, dairy products, fish, ready-to-eat dishes, food colourings and animal feed, etc.
