Established in 2012, the Centre for Climate Change & Sustainability Studies is a pioneering centre of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. The centre's faculty members and scholars work on diverse research themes ranging from energy to climate change, agrarian issues, industrial ecology, common property resources, and coastal and forestry sectors from interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary perspectives. The centre's Forest Commons and Governance Research Group seeks to develop an interdisciplinary, analytically sound and rigorous perspective towards studying the forest commons that draws from academic work in forest and environmental law, social sciences and the lived experiences and knowledge of communities, peoples, and movements. The work of the Forest Commons and Governance Research Group is driven by the ideal of equitable access to common property resources in different forms and the preservation of the ideal of the commons, both local and global.
