This Is For Me - This Is For Science

The 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐈𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐞 – 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐈𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 campaign is a nationwide fundraising initiative empowering participants to challenge themselves physically - whether through running, cycling, walking, rowing, or any form of movement - to raise funds for translational cancer research. The goal is to bridge the gap between groundbreaking lab discoveries and real-world clinical applications, accelerating the development of new treatments and saving lives. Participants choose their distance (from 1 to 100 miles) and the activity they wish to complete. They pledge £50 to take part and log their progress through Strava or by email. The campaign emphasizes inclusivity, cross-training, and personal growth while raising awareness about the critical importance of funding translational science. So far, 52 scientists across 11 institutes have joined the initiative by submitting short video testimonials, with backing from the Cancer Goals Programme and Research Infrastructure, Office for Life Sciences (DHSC/DSIT). This endorsement marks a significant milestone in highlighting the importance of translational research at the national level. Our goals: Involve 50 research institutes across the UK Recruit 5,000 participants to take on fitness challenges 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞 £250,000 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 Our Ethos: 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 - Every pound raised directly funds translational research awards, distributed through an open-call process in collaboration with Cancer Research Horizons. 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭 - We're closing the funding gap across the UK - not just the big hubs, but everywhere innovation happens. 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 - We're raising awareness on why funding translational research matters - bringing discoveries from lab to patients. This campaign brings together scientists, patients, and the public, united by a common goal: accelerating cancer breakthroughs and transforming lives.
