Structural
Formerics' explicit fracture tools enable simulation of laminated composite failure in delamination, crack initiation and propagation, and ductile failure in metals. Complete simulation of laminates includes failure of the design, both in mechanism and load, evaluating overall design, and the design of the laminate system. In forensics, modeling crack initiation and propagation is useful for determining failure mode and causation, and in repair to predict the effect on performance of existing damage or the efficacy of a repair. Ductile failure analysis is done without specifying the failure initiation point, or crack path.
Medical
Formerics' tools utilize MRI or CT images to create geometric representations of human structures. Label maps are automatically assembled into analysis suitable geometries without significant human interaction reducing expense and time while enhancing geometric accuracy and visual fidelity. These models may then be analyzed in ways which are impracticable to experimentally measure in humans or which are impermissible under the rules of medical ethics. The 3D nature of the models enhances their use for purposes of surgical planning and evaluation of appropriate therapies. The model is capable of displaying the unique structure of the imaged individual's biology, can show the effects of inserted prosthetics, demonstrate the effects of therapies and procedures, do comparative "before and after" analyses and serve as a roadmap to the repair of damaged tissues or the removal of malignant growths.
