FOSTREN & EViPRG: Reducing Violence and Coercion in Mental Health Services

FOSTREN was a COST Action designed to establish a sustainable, multidisciplinary network of researchers and practitioners focused on reducing the degree to which mental health services use coercion in hospital and community mental health services. The action led by Professor Richard Whittington from Norway and was successfully completed in October 2024. From May 2023, this page will serve also the European Violence in Psychiatry Research Group) members (EViPRG): https://www.eviprg.eu/. EViPRG is an active network of mental health researchers, service users, educators and practitioners with more than 120 members in Europe and beyond. EViPRG works by drawing on its members’ multidisciplinary expertise in clinical psychology, education, mental health nursing, pharmacology, psychiatry and sociology to examine the problem of violence and coercion from a wide range of perspectives. EViPRG was founded in 1997 and is an active and productive network which meets regularly to exchange and update ideas and to disseminate research to mental health practitioners in participating countries.
