Foundation Pierre Fokem

Foundation Pierre Fokem is a 501(c)3 non-profit organisation set up to bring basic human needs to underserved communities. I was thinking about my father while waiting, in an airport, for my next flight to Douala, Cameroon. I was going back to my country of birth to bury my father who had passed away the day before. My flight had been scheduled while he was alive and unwell but I had run out of time to see him before he left this world, following a short illness. As I thought of dad, his lust for life, his generosity and social impact, I knew he had to keep living and continue to help people beyond his grave; just like he did all his life. Although he lived in the city of Douala and had an important social and philanthropic impact, our dad was committed to developing the community in his village, in the western part of Cameroon. He was responsible for bringing electricity to his community as well as contributing to the local school and construction of the local parish; of which he was a member of the congregation. He had the ambition of bringing clean water to the community and opening a pharmacy to provide easy access to medicine to villagers. Education had always been close to his heart and he financed the studies of several people in and outside the extended family and throughout his life. We lost our father but his spirit remains in us and will live through the Foundation Pierre Fokem, to continue to touch and improve the lives of people who don’t have access to some basic human needs. The foundation will work with the community to provide water, education and health solutions.
