Who Is Freedom Excursions?
Founded in April 2008, Freedom Excursions is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has formed partnerships with multiple VA Polytrauma Hospitals, VA Health Centers, Military Installations, and Vet Centers across our nation.
What Does Freedom Excursions Do?
Our primary mission is to take wounded Warriors, with both physical and psychological wounds, out on excursions as part of their therapy. We also take out any honorably discharged Veteran, Active Duty Service Member, their families and the families of the fallen.
Why Is Freedom Excursions Needed?
Due to advances in medical technology in the field, the survival rate of those injured in combat continues to rise. Those injured will continue to need care for years to come. Our excursions expand their capabilities while allowing a break from the clinical setting of the hospital. Documentation shows that excursions change a patient’s mental perspective towards life dramatically. They are suddenly motivated, with a renewed sense of purpose, to continue doing what they need to do, no matter how painful.
• Wounded Service Members currently in the VA Hospital system. This includes patients in Traumatic Brain Injury Units and Spinal Cord Injury Units that are facing a long road to recovery.
• Veterans that are currently utilizing the services at their local Vet Center.
• Active duty Service Members
• Families of deployed active duty Service Members
