Freedom Project Network

We are a network of youth empowerment programs serving students in Sunflower County, Meridian, and Rosedale, Mississippi. The first Freedom Project was founded in Sunflower County, MS in 1998 by three former teachers who wanted to expand opportunities for students beyond what was being offered in their schools. Their mission was to create a corps of academically capable, socially conscious and mentally disciplined leaders in the Mississippi Delta. The program was modeled after the Mississippi Freedom Schools of 1964, with a focus on student and community empowerment via culturally-relevant, liberatory educational experiences. After 15+ years of proven success, new Freedom Projects were founded in Meridian and Rosedale in 2014 and 2015, respectively. Since then, we’ve deepened our commitment to college access and college success with the addition of two new programs to our network: Freedom Summer Collegiate and Alumni College Success Program. We now have a 20+ year history of providing Mississippi's youth with a toolkit to realize their fullest potential, and we strive to continue expanding our impact across the state of Mississippi and beyond.
