Refrigeration systems contribute significantly to global emissions, making energy-efficient solutions crucial. The EIC-funded FROSTBIT project is developing the first solid-state refrigerator using barocaloric materials. These materials undergo reversible thermal changes when exposed to pressure, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional cooling systems.
FROSTBIT has received funding from the European Innovation Council (EIC) under grant agreement No 101161137 and from UKRI. The EIC receives support from the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme.
