Fruitfully Yours (FLY) is an award-winning community organization and social enterprise preventing food waste, fighting food insecurity, and protecting the environment.
It was founded on Aug 9, 2017 by Mihir Anand when he was a Freshman at Glendora High School. He decided to find a solution for the abundant fruit from the fruit trees in his community, just falling to the ground and going waste. He came up with the idea of forming a volunteer organization that would pick the unwanted fruit from your trees and donate it to a local food bank to distribute it to the food insecure. He approached the then Mayor of Glendora about his idea and, with his support, networked within the community to promote Fruitfully Yours, and generate our initial fruit donors and volunteers. Later he expanded the initiative using social media, attending community events, word of mouth, etc. Our area of service is Glendora and its neighboring cities of La Verne, San Dimas, Covina and Azusa (San Gabriel Valley, also called the Citrus Valley).
Various kinds of fruits have been saved from wasting and donated to Shepherd’s Pantry in Glendora, CA. With an average of 950-1,000 pounds of fresh fruit donated each month, Shepherd’s Pantry is able to distribute about 3 pounds of this nutritious food per household and thus feed over 325 families or about 1000 individuals each month.
