The CARF Foundation was founded on February 14, 1989, inspired by Saint John Paul II to Blessed Alvaro del Portillo, to help train diocesan priests, seminarians and religious men and women to better serve the Church throughout the world.
Today, thanks to the support of its volunteers, benefactors and friends, the CARF Foundation has helped almost 40,000 students from 131 countries with their studies at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome and at the Faculties of Ecclesiastical Studies at the University of Navarra in Pamplona. Among the alumni of the CARF Foundation there are already 134 students who have been ordained bishops, and three of them, created cardinals.
