The Stefano Steenbakkers Betancourt, Corp. Foundation was established in San Juan, Puerto Rico by Stefano's mother, Zorimar Betancourt, in October 2012, as a non-profit organization whose main purpose is to create awareness of the necessity for organ donors in our country and in the rest of the world.
It is constituted as an instrument of giving life, with love, in order to fulfill the dream of Stefano Steenbakkers Betancourt to change the world. A young man of only 17 years who died on June 27, 2012 as a result of receiving a shot in the head during a carjacking in Dorado, Puerto Rico.
To the surprise of his family, Stefano was registered as an organ donor when he got his driver's license at age 16. That gesture that at the time seemed so simple transformed into the gift of life to five people who needed his organs.
Our main purpose is to spread a message of love through our country, urging the public to register as organ and tissue donors, which means a gift of life that costs nothing, and is invaluable as well, This way we can ensure that the legacy of this young man is perpetual.
