In Mexico, 14 million children under ten are living in marginalized communities. In these communities, they suffer from issues ranging from food insecurity to malnutrition and obesity. For over 30 years, Fundación Nutriendo has served the children of San Luis Potosí by assisting them in combating situations where food affordability and instability are a constant concern in their communities. Our program currently serves 4,200 children, providing them with meals, and monthly medical evaluations.
The main problem that we are concerned with is addressing Malnutrition in Mexico. This problem affects many children in and around San Luis Potosí. Studies show that 85% of a child's brain goes through development between the ages of newborn to 5 years old. The main factors that could impede said development are poor nutrition, lack of stimulation, and lack of affection. This situation of vulnerability, coupled with a lack of sense of community, is where our 4,200 children find themselves.
Our solution to this problem is to continue providing attention to the 64 kindergartens we currently serve. By working closely with the parents of the 4,200 children in our program, we can increase the impact of our programs. We also can work with the parents and their children by providing training workshops to the children and their parents. Through these measures, we allow our children to have an increased sense of community, focusing on the importance of the family unit.
For our long-term impact, Fundación Nutriendo is committed to continuing to provide for the 4,200 children in our program through our Nutriendo 360 and Nutriendo Route Model. The goals we wish to achieve are to increase the academic level of our children and decrease the absenteeism and dropout rates in kindergarteners. By implementing the workshops and programs we offer, the parents of children will continue to be committed to our children's health, education, and well-being.
