🌱 THE COCHAMÓ VALLEY IS IN DANGER ❗️ It does not have a legal conservation figure. 🚫 Real estate, access closures, roads over the native forest and hydroelectric plants are some of the threats. About the valley of Cochamo Patagonia of Chile In the commune of Cochamó, X Region, are the circuits La Herradura and Paso el León. Both circuits begin in the El Morro sector and pass through incomparable landscapes. White granite walls in the La Junta sector, a unique waterfall in the El Arco sector, glacial lakes such as Laguna Grande and Lake Vidal Gormaz, ancestral paintings of the Tehuelche people in the Torrentoso sector and a thick ancient forest in the Rio Steffen, ending the journey in the beautiful Lake Tagua Tagua. The circuit is home to numerous species of mammals, birds and amphibians in danger of extinction. It also houses 8,000 hectares of ancient larch trees. Within the circuit live settlers who maintain a century-old muleteer culture. Its attractions have positioned it as a world-class tourist destination, but threats such as subdivisions within the Valley, illegal access closures, roads over the native forest and the loss of cultural tradition that this entails have also been exacerbated. The territories of the circuit do not have a legal mechanism that ensures their conservation in perpetuity, they are mostly private property, they are not part of a National Park, Private Reserve or Nature Sanctuary.
