Funder Exchange

FEX was created in the fall of 2017 and closed a year later. The venture began with the notion that ICOs present tremendous potential, both for good and for harm. The ICO model's characteristics (at least in theory) of global availability through global issuance and global tradability or transferability were, to us, a catalyst for an evolved IPO. We also recognized an untapped demand for efficiency, access, and trust in the private securities space–from both issuers and investors. We saw an opportunity to create a global trading venue for privately-issued securities that harnessed distributed ledger technology and harmonized regulatory requirements in a multi-jurisdictional exchange for these securities tokens or digital bearer tokens. Our work was fast, furious, and fun, thanks to our team, our partners, and the backing of supportive investors that shared our vision. Unfortunately, we were unable to take the business to the next stage. This was due to a combination of things: the perception of a changing regulatory landscape, the lack of traction of even one good offering in a market hit by ICO distrust, and, consequently, shallow investor appetite for such investments.
