Ocean waste is a global problem. The constant polluting of the seas caused by plastic waste is disheartening. Coastal communities are confronted with waste washed ashore, and they have often little to do with its origin. They suffer from the presence of day to day waste and need an intervention. The polluter has a responsibility and an important role to play in it.
Garbage will be collected and removed from its original location and converted into a G-Cube (G = Garbage). A sculpture will be created from it, reproduced and multiplied. Consequently, it will be transferred back to industrial, prosperous nations where it might have originated, for proper disposal. Therefore the G-Cube, could be regarded as an ambassador to the reduction of ocean waste.
Production of a certain number of G-Cubes over a specific time-frame will determine the individual value of a single G-Cube, and the sale price will vary depending on the price of crude oil. A proportion of the sale will be invested in projects which help to clean the world’s oceans. The purchase of an art object (G-Cube) will channel consumer spending, into sustainable environmental projects. The G-Cube creates an incentive, an economic value to cleaning ocean waste.
