GANZ Danubius Group

The Ganz Danubius Shipyard is the heritage of the Hungarian shipbuilding tradition, associated with the establishment of the first shipyard in Hungary in 1835 on the island of Óbuda, as one of the greatest accomplishments of Count Széchényi István in introducing shipbuilding industry and promoting safe and regulated fluvial transportation on the River Danube. The achievements of the Óbuda Shipyard, and the succeeding Shipyards and Factories, soon developed to become one of the major forefronts of the European Engineering, Fluvial and Marine Shipbuilding, and Industrial Technology. During almost two centuries, a wide range of fluvial and marine ship vessels were designed and built by Ganz Danubius representing the recognized Hungarian innovation, quality and reliability on the international market. Thousands of these ships were delivered to the Soviet Union, Central & Eastern Europe, Africa, Middle East, South America and Asia. Hundreds of portal and floating cranes are still operating and in service to the satisfaction of the owners, operators and crew. The Hungarian state-owned Ganz Danubius Shipyards and Crane Factory was succeeded by the private-owned Ganz Danubius Group in 1995 dedicated to offer professional ships and special purpose vessels for clients, while maintaining the values of Hungarian shipbuilding tradition.
