GAPS Green Public Procurement Toolkit

This project is funded under the EPA Research Programme 2021-2030 and co-funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine. The EPA Research Programme is a Government of Ireland initiative funded by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications. GAPS is an interdisciplinary research investigation project in the area of Green Public Procurement (GPP). It seeks to provide an understanding of how systemic change can be adopted, generating an innovative Irish GPP toolkit impacting low-carbon businesses and markets, diverse organisational models, climate action, the bioeconomy, the circular economy, and decarbonisation of the economy. Green public procurement (GPP) is a process in which public authorities seek to source goods, services, or works with a reduced environmental impact. Making green the entirety of the Irish Government’s spending on goods and services has enormous potential to reduce emissions and protect our environment, saving money over the full life cycle of goods and services and leading by example. GPP research can be used to inform and lead ways to reduce Ireland’s carbon footprint, limit the environmental impact of resource use, and increase innovation and sustainability.
