Historic Gateway Neighborhood Corporation (HGNC) and Historic Warehouse District Development Corporation (HWDDC) are neighborhood-based partners with Downtown Cleveland Alliance, and frequently collaborate as Downtown Cleveland’s community development arm. Focused on neighborhood placemaking, identity and grassroots relationships, HGNC and HWDDC’s activities, events and programs reflect a unique culture rooted in historic preservation and strategic revitalization. • Joint relationship based on shared staff of 4 employees -Warehouse District CDC formed in 1980 (HWDDC) -Gateway District (East 4th CDC) in 1988 (HGNC) • Together both form a certified National Main Street program, Historic Downtown Cleveland • Unique focus areas include historic preservation, grassroots networking among downtown stakeholders, relationship building, events, planning and placemaking -Historic Conservation Easement Program, city-wide in scope (largest credible program in Northeast Ohio) o Planning & Placemaking - Historic Downtown Cleveland Design Review (Advisory committee to the City of Cleveland’s Landmarks Commission for all of Downtown) - Public Realm improvements - Technical Assistance o Take a Hike Walking Tours (program of HGNC) - Award winning downtown-wide program, offering 5 free tours a week May – September each of different neighborhoods - 90 minute educational/entertaining tours, featuring street theatre portraying historic Clevelanders - Planning partnerships developed with Playhouse Square and Canalway Partners - Largest public tour program of its variety in the region, possibly nation – scope planned to increase o Events - Annual Luncheon & Lecture featuring nationally respected urbanist - Walk & Dine and Holiday Tour showcase downtown housing options through an entertaining night out - Street Festival large one day event on West 6th St, approx. 12,000 attendees - Pop-up events (Java & Jive, Rockin’ the Warehouse, Chalk Wall)
