Gawi Bapakat

Gawi Bapakat brings together different stakeholders to build sustainable villages in Seruyan District, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. Our goal is to ensure that every village has reliable access to the financial and technical support needed to move toward a more sustainable way of life. Through a bottom-up approach, Gawi Bapakat empowers communities to propose their own ideas—rooted in local needs and priorities. The process is intentionally simple, inclusive, and community-led, making it easier for support to reach those who need it most. Why Seruyan District? Seruyan is a place of rich natural resources, from forests to peatlands, but it also faces urgent challenges: environmental degradation, economic inequality, and pressure from extractive industries. At the same time, it holds incredible potential for leading a new model of sustainable rural development—where economic growth, ecological protection, and community resilience go hand in hand. By working together and sharing responsibility, we are shaping a future in Seruyan where villages are self-reliant, prosperous, and living in harmony with the land and water they depend on—today and for generations to come.
